Launch of two new FXBVillage programs in Rwanda

Posted on 18 December 2021

By 2024, FXB aims to lift 10,000 adults and children out of poverty in the districts of Kamonyi and Nyarugenge.

OUR ASSESSMENT
In Rwanda, as in all developing countries, poverty is multidimensional. It is not simply a matter of insufficient income and resources to ensure a sustainable livelihood. Poor people face a variety of complex challenges: malnutrition, lack of clean water, limited access to education and information, disease, unhealthy housing and environment, discrimination and social exclusion, and adverse weather conditions.

In general, the situation has deteriorated further with the COVID-19 pandemic. Some parents have become too poor to provide school fees or meals for their children. They send them to look for work to ensure the survival of their families. This is a double punishment for the children and youth: the abandonment of schooling and the prospect of a dignified future, coupled with the long-term physical and moral consequences of the exploitation of these children who work beyond their physical strength.

THE STRENGTH OF OUR APPROACH? TO TACKLE THE MULTIPLE CAUSES OF EXTREME POVERTY.
It is about treating the root causes and not only their symptoms in order to accompany our beneficiaries on the path to sustainable development. It would be a mistake to address only the issue of income! Partial aid, addressing only one of the causes of poverty, is not a sufficient solution to overcome it in a sustainable way.

Our poverty reduction model, FXBVillage acts simultaneously on all the factors that underlie poverty through 5 axes.

– Economic strengthening
– Access to food security
– Access to health
– Access to education and information
– Healthy housing and environment

THE STRENGTH OF OUR ACTION? TO ENSURE SUSTAINABLE SELF-SUFFICIENCY.
All dimensions of the VillageFXB model have been designed to ensure the sustainability of impacts. Instead of creating dependency on outside help, FXB builds the overall capacity of participants based on their identified needs. Each person, through their work and commitment, ensures the sustainability of the results on their quality of life.

THE OBJECTIVES

At the end of this three-year program, the living conditions and social integration of beneficiary families are significantly improved.

  • The economic capacities of women and men beneficiaries of the project are strengthened, their sources of income diversified and their savings power increased.
  • The food security of families and child malnutrition is eradicated.
  • The health status of families is significantly improved through access to adequate health care and prevention as well as improved infrastructure and behavior related to water, sanitation and hygiene.
  • Early childhood development is integrated, children are enrolled in school, and youth are trained in trades and entrepreneurship.
  • The social integration of families, their resilience, and the empowerment of women are strengthened through close education and access to information and psychosocial support. The entire community is sensitized to critical health and social issues

This project could not exist without the very generous support of Réjane and Michel Lacoste.
